A Jam Packed Month of Special Days and Celebrations

As the early parts of the year can sometimes feel a little grey with the cold weather, our activities team has been busy making sure there’s plenty of warmth and cheer to go around. Over the last month, we’ve embraced a mix of well-loved traditions and quirky celebrations throughout our activities programme, bringing smiles, laughter, and meaningful moments to our residents.
We kicked off our celebrations with Valentine’s Day, a time for love and appreciation. Residents enjoyed a lively game of Valentine’s Bingo, with our lucky winner receiving a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The day continued with a delightful Valentine’s Afternoon Tea which was lovingly prepared by our kitchen team. With delicious treats and a warm atmosphere, it was a wonderful opportunity for residents to socialise and share stories of romance and friendship.
For those with a sweet tooth, Chocolate Day was a highlight. We held a delicious chocolate-tasting session, followed by steaming cups of hot chocolate. A chocolate-themed quiz made the day a delightful multi-sensory experience and brought out a competitive side in our residents. The taste, smell, and memories associated with chocolate sparked wonderful conversations, reinforcing the power of small pleasures in enhancing well-being.

We also added a touch of fun and nostalgia and marked Teddy Bear Day with a heartwarming Teddy Bears’ Picnic. Residents brought along childhood toys and shared memories of their younger years, making it a wonderful afternoon of reminiscing. These moments of reflection are so important as they offer comfort and connection through shared experiences.
Residents were thrilled to be able to welcome talented performers this month including Lee Knott, James Hogg, and the Cantiamo Female Voice Choir. Live music always brings a special energy to Longbridge Deverill as it encourages residents to sing along, tap their feet, and even get up for a dance. These performances often spark reminiscence, with familiar songs triggering happy memories from the past.
We also had another exciting visit from ZooLab, who brought along an array of fascinating creatures. Residents had the chance to meet and even hold a variety of animals, including a cockroach, corn snake, gerbils, a millipede, scorpion, and even a tarantula! This unique experience was a real talking point, with many residents surprised at how much they enjoyed getting up close to the animals. Animal interaction has many benefits, from reducing stress and anxiety to encouraging conversation and curiosity.

Here at Longbridge Deverill, it is important for us to fill our residents' days with the things they love most. The response this month has been overwhelmingly positive, with residents, staff, and visitors all commenting on the warm and lively atmosphere these events have created. Seeing the smiles, hearing the laughter, and witnessing the meaningful connections formed has been a wonderful reminder of the power of shared experiences and why we love what we do.
