An Extremely Busy Start to The Year!

Sometimes, the beginning of the year can feel quiet after an extremely busy December but at Longbridge Deverill, we made sure it was filled with warmth, laughter and plenty of uplifting moments. Our activities team put together a wonderful mix of entertainment, themed events, and animal visits to keep spirits high and bring a smile to every resident’s face.
We started the year with a truly delightful visit from a talented balloon modeller. With quick hands and plenty of charm, he crafted everything from dinosaurs to delicate flowers, visiting each resident personally to ensure no one missed out on the fun.

Another highlight of the month was our Elvis Presley-themed day on 8th January. Some of our residents embraced the spirit of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll by dressing up, while others enjoyed testing their knowledge with Elvis-themed trivia and crosswords. It was a fantastic afternoon filled with laughter and music and something we will definitely do again.
Music has played a big part in brightening our winter days. A visiting accordion player took us on a musical journey around the world, encouraging residents to guess the origins of each song—combining entertainment with a bit of brain-teasing fun. We also welcomed Nick from Mini-Concerts, who wowed everyone with his renditions of classic favourites by Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire, and John Denver. The familiar melodies had everyone singing along, bringing back fond memories and plenty of smiles.

We knew we couldn't start the year without also celebrating Chinese New Year so our residents made beautiful lanterns and enjoyed a selection of Chinese snacks prepared by our kitchen team. It was a lovely way to learn about and appreciate a different culture while enjoying some creative time together.

One of the most heartwarming moments of the month came from our special animal visitors. Two friendly alpacas made their way through the home, visiting residents in their rooms, sparking conversations about their unique living habits and offering plenty of opportunities for cuddles. We also had an incredible bird of prey display, where residents could stroke a calm and majestic barn owl. To round off our furry-themed fun, a therapy dog paid a visit, offering warm hugs and affectionate companionship to residents which sparked nostalgic conversations about much-loved pets throughout their lifetimes.

These carefully planned activities have truly lifted everyone’s spirits, turning chilly winter days into ones filled with warmth and joy. Our residents, staff, and visitors have all felt the positive effects, with a noticeable boost in mood and well-being. Moments like these remind us just how important social connection, engagement, and a little bit of fun are in making every day special.
We’re looking forward to more heartwarming activities in the months ahead!
