Annual Memberships and a Visit to Longleat Safari Park

At Longbridge Deverill Care Home, we are always looking for ways to enrich the lives of our residents by supporting their interests and creating new experiences. With many of our residents having a great love for animals, a group recently decided to purchase annual memberships for Longleat Safari Park, allowing them to visit the park throughout the year. To make the most of these memberships, we recently organised a special day out for our residents, including a “Jungle Safari and Boat Cruise,” and a scenic train journey around the park.

The day was filled with excitement and adventure as the residents interacted with a variety of animals, including feeding sea lions from the boat. They also got to see some extraordinary creatures up close, such as koalas, crocodiles and mantled guereza. These special moments brought smiles and joy to everyone involved.

Organising activities like these helps reduce feelings of loneliness and depression and improve the mental health of care home residents Engaging in fun, social activities that align with their interests, ensures our residents feel included and connected to both their peers and staff.

We have seen that animal interactions can improve social skills and encourage conversation, both during and after the experience, which helps to enhance overall well-being. The safari and boat cruise gave our residents a wonderful opportunity to bond with one another, creating lasting memories and new stories to share.

This brilliant day was a reminder to us that no matter our age, new experiences can spark happiness and offer a fresh perspective each day. We are proud to support our residents whilst they continue to do the things they love and look forward to many more trips to Longleat Safari Park throughout the next year.
