Palliative Care at Longbridge Deverill Home
Longbridge Deverill Nursing Home has a dedicated team of Care and Nursing staff 24 hours a day to ensure residents needs are fully met and individuals are supported to achieve their goals and maintain comfort and quality of life. Staff undergo training in palliative and End-of-life care, and we have dedicated ‘End of Life’ champions appointed within the team to ensure we provide an effective service.
Our Nursing staff support an individualised anticipatory care plan to ensure that palliative care is person-centred and identifies individual needs. This considers physical, emotional, spiritual and holistic needs to ensure values and wishes of individuals are upheld. We work closely with our multi-disciplinary team (MDT) including our GP practice and Dorothy House Hospice to ensure comfort and support 24 hours a day.
We implement therapeutic and medicinal treatments to ensure pain and distress that may be experienced at this stage is reduced. Therapies offered include therapeutic touch such as gentle massage, aromatherapy, music, pet therapy and sensory activities. Medicinal treatment will be prescribed by the GP/clinician and our Nursing team is highly skilled in administering medications including the use of a syringe driver to deliver medications to manage any distressing symptoms. Our activities team is equipped to offer complementary therapies and activities suitable to individual needs.
Furthermore, we extend our support to families, friends and carers at this difficult time to ensure they are supported with an understanding of what to expect at this phase in their loved one’s life. We have no restricted visiting times and welcome family members to spend meaningful time with their loved ones, have use of our facilities and feel at home with us.
